Our Mission
The League of Women Voters, a non-partisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
What We Do
The League of Women Voters in Harford County is a newly formed "Member at Large" unit of the Maryland League. We participate in an active program at the national, state and local level covering:
- Action and Advocacy. The process starts with determination of an issue to investigate. After studying an issue and arriving at a position, LWV moves into the Action and Advocacy phase. Each year we set our legislative priorities then we testify on bills, hold educational forums, send Action Alerts to citizens and issue press releases and letters.
- Community Services. We are striving to provide Speakers for community groups, businesses, schools, and organizations; election monitors and services for community groups and others; and to moderate local debates on issues.
- Educational Outreach. We collect and provide unbiased, fact-based information on issues, produce and distribute pamphlets and brochures and conduct forums and community meetings on important local and state-wide issues.
- Voter Services. The League of Women Voters registers voters, sponsors debates, forums, and candidate nights and publishes online and printed Voters' Guides to inform the electorate prior to elections.
Nonpartisanship
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan organization whose purpose is to promote informed and active participation in government. As an organization, the League of Women Voters does not support or oppose candidates for public office including candidates running for non-partisan office nor any party but acts only on those issues chosen by the membership for study and action.
